Chef’s Brandon and Tiera Sumblin are the founders of Safi Personal Events, LLC. Both are graduates of the College of Culinary Arts at Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte, NC. They began their careers working for top caterers and restaurants in Charlotte with Chef Brandon helping open 2 restaurants for Wolfgang Puck in both Charlotte and Palm Desert, CA. Upon graduation they relocated to Tiera’s hometown of Frederick, MD.
In 2015, along with Tiera’s parents Blanch and Ronnie Henry, they helped move the already established family business, Serenity Tearoom (est. 2005), to a larger location. With the move came a new menu development and the name was subsequently changed to Serenity Tearoom & Fine Dining. While at Serenity, Chef Brandon was able to showcase his creative cuisine which he described as Elevated Southern. Chef Tiera was in charge of the dessert menu and also helped her mom manage the front of house. It was truly a family affair! After 5 years Serenity was the #2 Tearoom in the United States on teamap.com and the #1 Overall Restaurant in Frederick on TripAdvisor.com. The family has also appeared on Food Network 6 times winning 5 competitions. Despite all the success and loving customers the family collectively decided it was time to slow down life. At the end of 2019 after nearly 15 years in business, Serenity served its last afternoon tea. Chef Brandon and Tiera were given the opportunity to take over the business but determined that with a 5 year old child at home, it just wasn’t the right time. Blanch retired and is now enjoying life with her Husband.
As life has finally slowed for the chef couple they are moving into the next stage which is Safi. After a few years of catering events for family, friends, and customers in the Washington, DC Metro Area, they realized that bringing the experience of a restaurant into your home is really quite special. No experience is ever the same with Safi Personal Events. We enjoy creating custom menus for each occasion based on the customers taste and desires.
